Listen to Are You Saying Yes Out of Guilt? Here’s What to Do Instead on:

In this episode, I challenge the idea that saying yes automatically makes you helpful, dependable, or a good person. Sometimes we say yes because we genuinely want to help, but sometimes we’re saying yes because we don’t know how to say no without feeling guilty. If you’ve ever found yourself overcommitted, exhausted, or resentful because you were trying to keep everyone happy, this episode will help you rethink what your yes really means.

I talk about the difference between guilt and shame, and how guilt can become a compass that quietly runs our decisions. I share why pausing before you answer can give you space to consider your values, your priorities, and the people who matter most. We also talk about letting other people experience disappointment, choosing short-term discomfort over long-term resentment, and making decisions intentionally instead of building a life around everyone else’s expectations of you.

In this episode, Are You Saying Yes Out of Guilt? Here’s What to Do Instead, I cover:

  • How guilt can turn into a decision-making compass
  • The difference between guilt and shame
  • Why saying yes to avoid disappointing people can lead to burnout and resentment
  • How to pause before automatically committing to something
  • Using your values to decide what deserves your time and energy
